Lord Ram and your Sun: three remedies for success, courage and recognition

Dr. Radhika Aggarwal  ·  6 min read  ·  Updated September 2026

Since the Ram Mandir rose in Ayodhya, I have watched something quietly shift in my NRI clients. People who had not thought about Lord Ram since childhood found themselves moved — watching the ceremonies on a phone in New Jersey or Toronto, unexpectedly emotional, and then asking me the same question: how do I actually bring Ram's blessings into my life from here?

The answer runs through a piece of jyotish most people have never been told. Lord Ram was born into the Suryavansha — the solar dynasty — and his energy aligns with Surya, the Sun. In your birth chart, the Sun rules exactly the things Ram embodies: courage, righteousness, authority, the father, and the recognition your work receives. So when the classical tradition prescribes remedies to invoke Lord Ram, they are, almost without exception, remedies that strengthen the Sun.

That also tells you who needs them most. A weakly placed Sun shows up in ways my clients describe every week: being consistently overlooked at work while juniors move past you, confidence that collapses in front of authority, a complicated relationship with the father, effort that never seems to convert into visibility. If any of that sounds familiar, these three remedies are where I would begin.

Three remedies of Lord Ram — and what each one strengthens

  • Offer water to the Sun at sunrise (Surya arghya). Fill a copper vessel with water, face east as the sun rises, and pour the water slowly while keeping the sun's light in view through the falling stream. This is the oldest Sun remedy in the tradition — done daily, it is prescribed for courage, vitality and recognition. Ram's own dynasty greeted the sun this way.
  • Light a ghee diya in the north of your home. The north belongs to Kuber, the lord of wealth, and a diya lit there in Ram's name joins the Sun's authority to the direction of prosperity. Tradition holds this as a wish-fulfilment practice — light it, sit with it briefly, and name what you are working toward.
  • Feed sooji halwa to those who need it. Seva — selfless service — is the offering Lord Ram values above ritual, and the tradition pairs this particular daan with Jupiter, the planet of wisdom and grace. Cook it yourself if you can; give it into real hands. In a Western city, cooking for a shelter or a community kitchen carries the same intention faithfully.
Ram is not worshipped to escape effort but to steady it — maryada means doing the right thing, in the right way, at the right time, and that is precisely what a strong Sun gives you.

How to approach Lord Ram properly

Ram is the Maryada Purushottam — the embodiment of righteousness — and his worship asks for discipline more than elaborateness.

  • Cleanliness first: a clean space, clean clothes, before any of the remedies above.
  • Offerings stay simple — fruits, dry fruits, tulsi leaves. Nothing costly is asked for.
  • Chant "Shri Ram" or "Om Shri Ramaya Namah" while you practise — the shortest mantras in the tradition, and among its most repeated.
  • Keep the thoughts behind the practice honest. Ram's blessings are traditionally said to follow dharma — the remedies work with your integrity, never around it.

When to do them

Sunday is the Sun's own day, and the natural anchor for all three remedies — Surya arghya every morning if you can, and the diya and daan on Sundays. Ram Navami, Lord Ram's birth anniversary each spring, is the strongest single day of the year for beginning the practice, and Diwali — the festival of his return to Ayodhya — is its most beautiful renewal. But none of this waits for a festival. A stuck career is reason enough to begin this Sunday.

And one thing I will always say plainly: remedies strengthen a planet — they do not replace knowing what that planet is actually doing in your chart. For some people the career wall is not the Sun at all; it is Saturn's delay, or Rahu's misdirection, and Sun remedies alone will leave them wondering why nothing changed. The chart tells you which it is. That is the difference between prescription and guesswork, and it is the entire reason my readings exist.

Frequently asked questions

I cannot see the sunrise from my apartment. Can I still offer arghya?
Yes. Face east at sunrise time and offer the water on a balcony, by an east window, or into a plant or basin — the direction, the timing and the intention carry the remedy. The tradition has always adapted to the homes people actually live in.

Are these remedies open to everyone?
The three above are general, sattvic remedies — safe for anyone. What differs person to person is emphasis: whether your chart needs the Sun strengthened at all, and how strongly. That is chart-specific, which is why I prescribe one remedy from a reading rather than handing everyone the same list.

How long before I see results?
I will not promise you a timeline — no honest astrologer will. What I ask of clients is consistency: the arghya daily, the diya and daan weekly, for at least a few weeks. Remedies are a practice, not a transaction, and the steadiness is itself part of what a strong Sun looks like. For the deeper career picture — periods, timing, and when your chart actually favours a move — the Wealth & Career Deep-Dive ($99) maps it in writing.

Is Ram Navami better than an ordinary Sunday?
Ram Navami is the year's strongest day for these remedies, and beginning a practice there is traditional. But the Sun rises every morning. The best day to begin is the one you will actually keep.
